The Story of Us

If you have any questions you’d like to ask us, leave a comment at the bottom of this page with the question and we’ll include it here.

Where/When did you meet?

In Mr. Cox’s chemistry class [insert pun about making our own chemistry here], our Junior year of high school (2001).  This happened despite the fact that Mr. Cox moved ALLY across the room because we talked too much.  Ally was not pleased about being moved like a poorly behaved child, so she moved her seat back.  She was *such* a rebel, but it was for love!!

Who made the first move?

Ally!  It just took Mike a bit to catch on…  He’s such a boy.

What was your first trip together?

Disney World!  It was winter break, senior year of high school.  It poured rain while we were at Epcot for New Year’s Eve, so we chose the warm hotel room over standing in ankle deep water to watch fireworks.  Mike had a goatee for about four days during that trip.  He thoroughly regrets this.

How many countries have you visited together?

Four: USA (duh) (including Puerto Rico and various islands), Australia (semester abroad), Mexico (Cancun), and Greece (Athens, Santorini, & Crete).

What was your first concert together?

We saw the Pop Disaster Tour (Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, and Green Day) at Fiddler’s Green on May 4, 2002. We hugged for the first time after that concert. It was super cute.

What’s the theme song of your wedding?

Regina Spektor’s Folding Chair

Who are the greatest, cutest, most awesome creatures to ever walk the planet since the beginning of time?

BONNIE AND HANNAH!  (Duh.)

Bonnie!Hannah!

About Mike, by Ally

What are five words to describe Mike?
Hilarious, Kind, Crazy-Smart, Handsome, AWESOMETASTIC

What is Mike’s favorite term of endearment for you?
Doodle, Poodle, Allybear, and Dookie.  Not so sure about how I feel about that last one…

If Mike had a super power, what would it be?
Designing websites faster than a speeding bullet!  And flying?

What’s a song that reminds you of Mike?
Regina Spektor’s Us
[audio:http://michaelandally.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/05-Us.mp3|artists=Regina Spektor|titles=Us]

If they made a movie about Mike, who would play him?
Jason Segel.  Mike is WAY CUTER, but Jason Segel is endearing and hilarious, just like Mike.

One of my favorite memories of Mike and me is:
There are sooooo many… but one of them?  Swimming in the ocean when we were in Crete, Greece.  The water was totally calm, we hadn’t planned on getting in the water, so it was a spur of the moment thing, and it was awesome.

What’s Mike’s worst habit?
Burping at inappropriate times.  Like when we have company.  Or when he’s on the phone with me, so it’s right in my ear.

What’s (one of) Mike’s best qualities?
He’s doesn’t give up.  If there’s something he doesn’t know the answer to, he figures it out. Whether it’s how to make a website look perfect, how to fix the A/C, or finding out if a person can die from an extremely powerful sneeze, Mike gets the answer.  I don’t have this quality (I’m perfectly happy not knowing everything about anything), so I’m constantly impressed by him.

Mike’s favorite curse word is:
Shit!  Actually, I don’t really know.  I guess he says “balls” quite a bit.

Mike’s favorite book is:
The Time Traveler’s Wife.  We both love it…

Mike’s favorite movie is:
Avatar!  If he could live on Pandora, he would.

What annoys Mike more than anything?
My inability to put the dishes in the dishwasher “correctly”.  And people who ride their bikes in the middle of the road when there’s a perfectly adequate bike lane or sidewalk.

If Mike could have any animal as a pet, he would choose:
A wolf.  Bonnie and Hannah work just fine, but they’re not wolves.  Or a raccoon!

When did you know Mike was someone important in your life?
A big moment: he woke up at 6 AM to come over to my house and help my brother, cousins and me decorate the driveway in giant polka dots for my grandfather’s memorial.  He was 18 years old, so getting up before noon was a BIG deal.

When I think of our future together, I feel:
So excited it makes my tummy hurt.

brilliant
beautiful

What is Ally’s favorite term of endearment for you?
“chicken doodle”, or simply “doodle”

If Ally had a super power, what would it be?
She’d be a witch (like Hermione). Is that a super power?

What’s a song that reminds you of Ally?
Arcade Fire’s Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)

If they made a movie about Ally, who would play her?
The Criteria: The actress must be sophisticated, beautiful, funny, and unique.
The Answer: Kate Winslet

One of my favorite memories of Ally and me is:
I love our occasional and always impromptu dance parties (when we randomly decide to put on a good song and jump around the living room together with the dogs). This one was particularly special.

Also, Memorial Day weekend trips to Crested Butte.

What’s Ally’s worst habit?
Shoes! And bags! EVERYWHERE!

What’s (one of) Ally’s best qualities?
Her eyes.
She moves her lips when she reads.
She wears scarves really well.
She reads a ton (I love that about her).

Ally’s favorite curse word is:
Fuck.

Ally’s favorite book is:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (she has a mad crush on Sirius Black)

Ally’s favorite movie is:
Titanic (still)

What annoys Ally more than anything?
The fact that I keep the house really cold all winter long.

If Ally could have any animal as a pet, what would she choose?
A whale. Or an elephant. Or a koala (specifically Hamilton).

When did you know Ally was someone important in your life?
I honestly can’t think of a time that I didn’t know how special and important she is to me.

When I think of our future together, I feel:
like I can’t wait to get started on it. I’ve always looked forward to spending my life with Ally, and have always assumed that getting engaged wouldn’t change that. But surprisingly, it has. I’m even more excited than ever to have found such an amazing woman to share a future with.
